Holiday cottage 15 people Burgundy: complete weekend with friends guide

Finding a holiday cottage for 15 people in Burgundy that genuinely delivers on the promise — fifteen comfortable beds, a kitchen sized for the whole group, enough bathrooms to avoid morning queues, and full private use of the property — is rarer than it looks. Online listings often claim “sleeps 15” by counting living-room sofa beds or by stitching together two separate units. This guide gives you the real criteria for choosing a self-catering cottage in Southern Burgundy suited to a weekend with friends, and introduces our house in Ciel (71350), 5 minutes from Verdun-sur-le-Doubs.

Why pick a 15-people cottage over a hotel or several Airbnbs?

When you travel as a group of fifteen, the first instinct can be to book several hotel rooms, or to combine two or three short-term rentals. That rarely works as well as a single property.

The “all together” moment is the whole point

The point of a weekend with friends in Burgundy is sharing: a long meal, a card game that drifts late, drinks that stretch past midnight. With two rentals 800 metres apart, that thread is broken. In a single cottage, the big dining table and the lounge become the heart of the trip.

A clearer overall budget

A 15-people cottage in full private use has a transparent cost: one rental, divided. Fifteen hotel nights at €90 each is already €1,350 a night — with no kitchen, no shared room, no hot tub. Our low-season rate starts at €1,050 for two nights, i.e. less than €35 per person per night, amenities included.

Freedom to set your own rhythm

You arrive when it suits you, cook what you want, play your own music. No fixed breakfast time, no neighbour through the wall. It is the self-catering model nearly all our groups of friends choose.

Key criteria for choosing a 15-people cottage in Burgundy

Before booking, check these six points. They make the difference between a smooth stay and a weekend hampered by logistics.

1. Fifteen real beds — proper beds, not sofas

Ask for the exact layout: how many bedrooms, what size of bed, how many convertible singles, how many extra folding beds. Our cottage offers 6 bedrooms and 15 real beds spread over two floors, with no need for a living-room sofa bed. Check too whether twin or double configurations are possible depending on your group (couples, singles, mixed).

2. A kitchen scaled for 15

A small flat kitchen will not do. Look for: a long worktop, an oven big enough for a 15-portion dish, a dishwasher (ideally two), a large fridge, and above all enough crockery, glasses and cutlery to set the table in one go. This single detail shapes the whole pace of the stay.

3. At least 3 bathrooms

With fifteen people, two bathrooms create immediate morning friction. The right ratio is 1 bathroom per 5 people, i.e. 3 bathrooms minimum. Our cottage has 3 bathrooms across the levels, plus separate WCs.

4. Full private use of the property

Make sure you are the only group on site — no owner at the back of the garden, no second adjoining cottage sharing the courtyard. This is non-negotiable for the relaxed atmosphere and reasonable volume a weekend with friends needs.

5. A genuine official rating

Don’t trust photos alone. The 4-star Atout France and 4-ear Gîtes de France ratings are audited against hundreds of concrete criteria: bedding, equipment, linen quality, insulation, cleanliness. They are the only objective benchmark. Our cottage holds both.

6. Amenities that change the trip

A private hot tub comes up constantly in our group feedback: it is the end-of-day relaxation moment that defines the stay. Also look for: terrace, pétanque court, garden, barbecue, a real sociable lounge (not a two-seater sofa in a corner), and decent wifi.

What to do as a group of 15 in Southern Burgundy?

Southern Burgundy is generous territory for groups. Here are the outings that work especially well at fifteen.

A wine tasting on the Côte chalonnaise

Mercurey, Rully, Givry, Montagny: the Côte chalonnaise is less crowded than the Côte de Beaune, and several estates welcome groups by appointment (around €15–25 per person for a guided tasting). 25 to 40 minutes from the cottage.

A day in Beaune

25 minutes north, Beaune deserves a full day: the Hospices, the Saturday morning market, lunch on Place Carnot, a tasting at Bouchard. At fifteen, share 3–4 cars and meet on site.

Cycling the Voie Verte

100 km of flat cycle path between Givry and Cluny. For a group, it is the most inclusive activity: every fitness level can join. Bike hire in Chalon-sur-Saône.

Kayak and paddleboard on the Saône

5 minutes away, several outfitters rent canoes and paddleboards by the hour or half-day. The water is calm, the banks shaded — perfect for a summer morning.

Louhans market hall and Bresse poultry

On Monday mornings, the Louhans market hall is a sight in itself. Bring back capons, poultry, snails and cheeses for a big dinner at the cottage the same evening.

The evening at the cottage: hot tub, pétanque, long table

Many groups tell us the best evenings of the weekend happened at the cottage. Drinks on the terrace, a game of pétanque, a long meal around the shared table, then the private hot tub under the stars. That is also why people come.

FAQ — 15-people cottage in Burgundy

How many real beds are in the cottage?

15 beds across 6 bedrooms, with no living-room sofa bed. The configuration can be adjusted (twin beds separated or pushed together depending on the room). Let us know at booking.

Do you accept pets?

No, the cottage does not accept pets. This is a hygiene choice for allergic guests and to protect the furniture and bedding.

Do you host parties, hen or stag dos?

Yes, with our prior agreement. These events are possible within the 15-guest limit and with respect for the neighbours: calm evening music, no powerful outdoor sound system. Tell us about your plans when booking.

Can we book just a 2-night weekend?

Yes, in low and mid season the minimum is 2 nights (Friday–Sunday or Saturday–Monday, for example). In summer (July–August) and over the end-of-year holidays, the minimum is 4 nights.

Do we need to organise evening entertainment?

The cottage is self-catering: no on-site catering or entertainment service. The house lends itself naturally to an evening with friends (long table, hot tub, pétanque, lounge). If you would like a caterer or a structured event, we can point you to local providers — just ask.

Is the cottage non-smoking?

Yes, no smoking inside. A smoking area is set up on the terrace.
